What our students say about the GlobCom experience

Below are a number of selected quotes capturing perceptions of the GlobCom experience and what the learning opportunity has meant for Curtin students (see also Lauren'sJacinta'sStav's retrospective reflections)

In three years at Curtin, this has been by far my favourite unit to date. Absolutely loved this unit. From week 1 to the very end, the topics discussed and learned were interesting and extremely valuable. GlobCom was the standout. What a great opportunity this was, even for the students who didn't travel to Abu Dhabi. This experience was enjoyable but also a great opportunity to learn valuable skills in teamwork, team leadership and meeting the client’s goals and objectives.

The GlobCom project was one of the highlights of my University degree. Working through language barriers and different time zones made the project a challenge, however [equally} it was the opportunity to work with such a diverse group of people that was the major highlight.

I have learned so much while participating in GlobCom2012, everything wouldn't fit in one page. I have learned to work with people from different cultures, improved my diplomatic skills, enhanced my time management skills, and grasped the key approaches to developing a PR campaign.

I really liked working with the international groups, but there were definitely some challenges. I think that the task, and the case study gave us a really deep insight into the way other countries work.

GlobCom has been the most amazing experience, but extremely busy. The symposium was really great, and presenting was a little nerve racking but such a great experience!! And even better - we won! Yay

The work shops have provided amazing exposure to communications and PR across various industries

I am really proud to be part of my international team, regardless of us winning or not. In the end we have  gained lots of experience in this short amount of time..

The Globcom opportunity was definitely such a key component of applying what we have learnt thus far in class. It also helped to gain personal knowledge of the 'real' international world of public relations.

I loved how much the [learning opportunity] pushed me personally to do and say things I normally wouldn’t. It has made me more open minded and tolerant to so many different issues.
